After investing more than £20 million in the summer, Birmingham has met expectations by starting the new season with a solid start at the top of the League One rankings.0
In their first 17 league games, Chris Davies’ team has only lost twice, won twelve, and drawn three. With games remaining for both Wycombe Wanderers and Wrexham, the Blues are in a great position to return to the Championship at the first attempt, sitting in third place and only one point behind them.
Securing a top-two finish will not be simple, though, and all of the new team members will need to be used this season. To guarantee that the Blues are promoted and future-proofed for many years to come, more new players could be added this winter.
Now that the next transfer window is only a few weeks away, transfer rumors are starting to circulate once more. We are here in Birmingham because of the growing list of players associated with the city. How may Davies’ starting lineup appear if the rumors are confirmed?
Potential new starting lineup for Birmingham City following January transfers
Ryan Allsop: Growing up Bluenose moved ahead of Bailey Peacock-Farrell in the goalkeeping hierarchy by being patient at the start of the season and waiting for his opportunity. His enthusiasm for the football team is evident.
This season, Krystian Bielik, the Blues’ new captain, has been a pillar in the back and was much missed while sidelined by injury. Bielik will undoubtedly continue to be the captain for as long as he remains with the football team, making him the team’s long-term backbone.
Phil Neumann: According to Football Insider After a £3.4 million offer for Neumann was turned down in the summer, the Blues are preparing a new bid. The German is big, strong, and incredibly quick. He is presently playing for Hannover 96 in the Bundesliga 2 championship.
Christoph Klarer: The football team has benefited greatly from the summer acquisition. As a true no-nonsense defender who shares the team’s unwavering will to advance to the Championship, Klarer appears to be well worth the £2.5 million invested.
Alex Cochrane: Despite Lee Buchanan’s recent injury comeback, no one is benching the Brighton & Hove Albion youth product after his incredible start to his Blues career. Cochrane is one of the team’s top crossers and a good defender.
Tomoki Iwata: Marc Leonard has been forced to the bench for the foreseeable future due to the Japan international’s exceptional play, which has beyond everyone’s expectations. Iwata has already scored multiple goals from outside the box and is an excellent passer of the ball.
Seung-ho Paik: The South Korean, who is Iwata’s ideal match, recently agreed to a contract extension that will keep him at St Andrew’s at Knighthead Park through June 2028. If the Blues’ development keeps up its current pace, this might be a midfield tandem that reaches the Premier League.
Chris Rigg: Journalist Alan Nixon claims on his Patreon that the Blues are aiming for a bold raid for Sunderland’s promising young player. It would be quite unusual if he joined Birmingham, as he is reportedly valued at €30 million (£24.8 million), breaking the League One transfer record would require it to be done again.
Willum Willumsson: Since joining from Go Ahead Eagles for a £2.5 million fee, “Thor” has adapted very well. The 26-year-old, who has so far mostly played right-sided attacking midfield, has four goals and four assists while missing just one League One match.
Jay Stansfield: Levels above League One, Stansfield is living up to his large price tag and he will be an important part throughout Birmingham’s long-term effort. Manager Davies is still attempting to determine his best position, which is the only area of speculation.
Alfie May: Last season’s best scorer in the English third division has maintained on his outstanding work, scoring seven goals and contributing four assists in 17 League One appearances this term. May is still getting used to the odd benching but that’s to be expected with so much skill and depth in the squad.
