Train strikes may have an impact on Preston North End supporters traveling to Watford on Gentry Day next month.

Next month, drivers will go on strike in response to the ongoing disagreement over wages and working conditions. ASLEF members will participate in rolling one-day walkouts at 16 rail firms between Friday, April 5, and Monday, April 8. The plans of PNE supporters who were going to go to Hertfordshire or London the day before the game were derailed.

Ryan Lowe’s team is playing at Vicarage Road as part of the club’s annual Gentry Day, where fans dress in suits and bowler hats in remembrance of individuals who were associated with the team and died within the last year or so. The train announcement is made two and a half weeks before Preston’s away match.

With rail companies having stated their aim to minimize disruption, the union hopes to ‘raise the pressure’ on them for a salary hike. On Friday, April 5, Avanti West Coast strikes, along with those involving East Midlands Railway, West Midlands Trains, and CrossCountry, are scheduled to occur. Chiltern, GWR, LNER, Northern, and TransPennine will all strike on Saturday.

The general secretary of Aslef, Mick Whelan, stated: “Our members voted massively in favor of strike action once again. The results clearly demonstrate the train drivers’ rejection of the absurd offer made to us in April of last year. The government has had numerous chances to engage in dialogue, but it is now evident that they are unwilling to find a solution to this issue. They are content for it to never end.”
