What Noel Gallagher thought of the City Ground
The world-famous musician recently spoke with The Athletic about Manchester City. Although his initial comments on the City Ground were not included in the original article, a new piece from The Athletic, focusing on stadium changes by Evangelos Marinakis, has now shared Noel Gallagher’s thoughts.
Gallagher described the City Ground as “a throwback to the old days” and compared it to Everton’s “old school” Goodison Park, which the Toffees are set to leave soon. It seems the former Oasis star enjoyed his visit to Nottingham Forest’s iconic stadium.
Unfortunately, historic grounds like these are becoming increasingly rare, as many clubs, including Everton, are opting for newer, modernized stadiums.
Nottingham Forest could also move
Amid a highly publicized dispute with the Nottingham City Council, who reportedly propose increasing Nottingham Forest’s annual lease fee for the City Ground from £250,000 to £850,000, owner Evangelos Marinakis is considering relocating the club to Toton, according to The Athletic.
Despite strong preferences expressed by supporters to remain at the City Ground, described by Nottingham Forest Chairman Tom Cartledge as a “forever home” for the club, ongoing discussions between the club and the City Council leave the possibility of a future departure from the historic venue still open, as reported by The Athletic.
