The manager that Sunderland is now rooting for was once called the “worst coach ever.”
Following their split from Michael Beale in February, Sunderland is currently searching for their next manager.
Since then, the Black Cats have been without a permanent manager, and the lack of progress on the management front is starting to irritate fans.
Owner of Sunderland Kyril Louis-Dreyfus has already lost out on Will Still, the newly appointed manager of RC Lens, who was his first priority.
Liam Rosenior left the Sunderland team shortly after, preferring to go after the Burnley position. Rosenior was the former Hull City manager.
There are now very few people on Sunderland’s shortlist. Marti Cifuentes is one manager that Kristjaan Speakman, the sporting director, and Louis-Dreyfus both appreciate.
Sunderland are reportedly keen on QPR manager Cifuentes after the Spaniard guided the R’s to an 18th place finish in the Championship last season.
He’ll reportedly cost the Black Cats a six-figure compensation fee. But as the search process goes on and patience wears thing among fans, Sunderland may yet be forced to pay out Cifuentes at QPR.
