EXCELLENT “Far from over: Magpies still fighting for a finals spot”

AFL Rd 22 - Sydney v Collingwood

A “wild” AFL season has kept Collingwood’s hopes alive for a back-to-back premiership, a feat the club hasn’t achieved since the 1930s, even though the task appears daunting.

Premiership ruckman Darcy Cameron stated that the team’s first priority this week is to put aside the disappointment from their “heartbreaking” loss to the Sydney Swans and focus on defeating the Brisbane Lions, the premiership favorites, at the MCG on Saturday.

With just two games remaining, Collingwood sits one game outside the top eight. They must win both their upcoming matches against the Lions and Melbourne to have any chance at making the finals. However, even a victory on Saturday might not be enough if other results don’t go their way.

Despite the odds, Cameron remains optimistic, saying, “It’s not over yet. We’re going to fight to the very end with two big games to come.”

Cameron highlighted the unpredictability of this season, where unexpected results have kept hope alive. “The season’s been crazy, and you saw on the weekend the results just keep getting more and more weird … (so) there is still hope.”

The Magpies have had success against Brisbane in the past, including a four-point win in the last grand final at the MCG and a 20-point victory at the Gabba in round 3. Cameron believes these results, along with a string of recent upsets in the league, are reason enough to expect something special on Saturday.

“We’re not out of it yet. This game means a lot for us,” Cameron said, emphasizing the importance of fan support at their last home game. “We’re going to go out there and execute our game style for 100 per cent of the game, not just 90 per cent like we’ve seen over the last two weeks.”

After facing Brisbane, the Magpies will close out the season with a Friday night clash against Melbourne at the MCG.
