Voss’ warning as Blues battle growing injury list

Michael Voss, the coach of Carlton, has responded to enquiries on his team’s colossal injury list after they were compelled to make six changes for their crucial victory over West Coast.

With just two home-and-away games left, it comes after the Blues’ disastrous 74-point loss to Hawthorn in round 22, which saw them plunging to ninth on the ladder.

In addition, the Blues sustained numerous injuries in the defeat, which has prompted the team to take huge risks before their trip to Washington.

Voss, though, was not interested in going into specifics about how the injuries have affected the team.

“You can focus on the injuries and write about them as much as you like, but I’ll focus on the guys that are actually going to get out there and play and the guys who are training,” Voss stated on Friday.

“And a job that we need to be able to get done.”

Leading scorer Charlie Curnow ultimately suffered a re-injury to his ankle, Adam Saad was substituted due to a hamstring strain, and Jack Martin also exited the game early due to a hamstring problem.

In addition, Jordan Boyd had to play through an adductor injury while Lachie Fogarty shattered his clavicle in a collision in midair.

Additional injury news surfaced a day after the defeat, with star forward Harry McKay having his quadriceps scanned.

The list of celebrities sidelined by injuries sustained in round 22 is already lengthy and includes ruckman Tom De Koning.

De Koning is out with ongoing lung and foot issues, while Adam Cerra is also still sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Orazio Fantasia (calf), Sam Docherty (knee), Corey Durdin (shoulder), David Cuningham (shoulder) and Matthew Cottrell (shoulder), make up just some of the other players who may not return in 2024.

Voss said the injury list was completely out of his control, urging his playing group to move forward and fight for a spot in the top eight.

“There’s not a lot you can do about fractured collarbones and the like. So we’ll face the next challenge,” he said.
