Breaking News: Blackburn Rovers urged to sign Leicester City player

Blackburn Rovers have had a busier summer than anticipated, but John Eustace’s team still requires a few more additions to elevate their performance further.

The team has started the season strongly, earning four points from their first two matches, scoring 12 goals, and progressing past the initial round of the Carabao Cup.

This is a stark contrast to their challenging 2023/24 season, where they barely avoided relegation on the final day thanks to a decisive double from Sammie Szmodics against Leicester City.

However, Szmodics’ transfer to Ipswich Town and the departure of other key players have left the club lacking in depth in several areas.

With the transfer window closing on August 30, Eustace needs to act swiftly to secure any new signings.

Blackburn is currently in need of a goalkeeper.

While Aynsley Pears has had a decent start to the season, he might not have anticipated still being Blackburn’s first-choice keeper at this point.

He made only 26 appearances last season and has largely served as a backup since joining from Middlesbrough in 2020.

Aynsley Pears Blackburn Rovers

Rovers have yet to secure a top-quality first-choice goalkeeper and must act swiftly to address this gap, according to FLW’s Blackburn Fan Pundit, Toby Wilding. He notes: “It’s difficult to pinpoint just one area that needs improvement since there are several positions that still require strengthening. However, I would prioritize signing Daniel Iversen for the goalkeeper role, as he’s been linked with the club.”

Wilding emphasizes the importance of this position: “Currently, Pears is the only senior option we have in goal, and as we’ve seen from last season and the beginning of this season, he has made some costly mistakes. It would be risky not to bolster this position.”

Iversen should be Blackburn’s top priority. After spending the second half of the 2023/24 season on loan at Stoke City, Iversen is now seeking a new club, whether on loan or permanently.

Daniel Iversen

Although his contract at the King Power Stadium runs until next summer, Leicester has set a £1.5 million asking price for the 27-year-old, who also earns £25,000 a week, as reported by Alan Nixon via Patreon.

Appearances 18
Clean Sheets 7
Saves (Percentage) 32 (59.3%)
Errors Leading to Goals 0
Goals Prevented -2.31

Toby believes that Blackburn should not be discouraged from making an offer despite the cost: “Among the goalkeepers linked with Rovers, I prefer Iversen. He has proven himself at this level and, at 27, could be a solid long-term choice.”

He continues, “Considering the reported price of £1.5 million and the funds the club has received this year from Szmodics, Adam Wharton, and the David Raya sell-on clause, it might be feasible to afford him.”
