Due to their inability to make any acquisitions until their ownership crisis is resolved, the Berkshire team has had to hold onto their key players this summer.

However, the South London Press reports that the Royals are planning to approve Azeez’s departure as a takeover appears to be imminent.

The wide player had a difficult start to the previous season, but Ruben Selles stuck with him, and it paid off as the Berkshire team greatly benefited from his performances in the second half of the 2023–24 campaign.

He was a miss in the early part of this season due to an injury, but he registered a lot of goals and assists from the right side.

Despite his return, he only played as a substitute during last weekend’s match against the Wisconsin Athletics, and it appears that this will be his last game at Select Car Leasing Stadium.

With the departures of Dom Ballard and Paul Mukairu, the Royals will need to find a replacement for him before the summer transfer window closes. At this juncture, their only viable wing alternatives are Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan and Mamadi Camara.

Both spent the previous season on loan at the SCL Stadium; however, the former has since signed a short-term contract with Blackpool, while the latter failed to make much of an impression while in Berkshire.

Millwall closing in on Femi Azeez deal

The South London Press claims that Azeez has been a target for the Lions all summer long.

The wide player will soon be able to complete his move to The Den after the two teams finally agreed on a cost. Nevertheless, they were unable to come to an agreement until very recently.

Due to rumours that he may return to Scotland, Kevin Nisbet’s future at Millwall is uncertain.

The athlete is reportedly scheduled to get a physical today in an attempt to complete his transfer to the English capital.

The exact amount that was agreed upon is still unknown, but the Royals will be hopeful that their team will get a respectable price for one of their main players.

The Royals may not have made the worst decision to cash in on Azeez.

The player is seemingly keen to leave and with the wide man having less than a year left on his contract at the SCL Stadium, losing him for a fee rather than for free is preferable.

If this deal is to be sanctioned though, the Berkshire side will need to confirm a takeover as quickly as possible so they can start signing players.

They can’t afford to not bring in a replacement for the 23-year-old, who was influential for much of last term.

Ehibhatiomhan may have taken his game to a new level and his replacement Camara has done a decent job this season, but the latter isn’t a clear upgrade on Azeez at this point.

Not only is more quality needed out wide, but more depth could also be crucial, with injuries and suspensions likely to come into play during the 2024/25 campaign.
