Ashton Moir and Cooper Lord are set to make their debuts, while one-gamer Jaxon Binns, along with Lewis Young, Jack Carroll, and Corey Durdin, has been recalled to the team.
With only two rounds remaining and Carlton sitting outside the top eight on percentage, this game is a must-win.
Early in Friday’s training session, Curnow and McKay were seen doing light exercises. When asked if any injured players might return next week, coach Voss cut off the question, stating, “I’m not focusing on the injuries. You can write about them if you want, but I’m concentrating on the players who are available and the job we need to get done.”
Voss also mentioned that the team wouldn’t alter their approach to avoid further injuries. “You can’t do much about things like fractured collarbones, so we’ll face the next challenge head-on,” he said. “The unpredictability of the game is what makes it exciting. We need to be courageous and bold, stick to our plan, and execute it.”
He declined to comment on whether Carlton would change their conditioning program, noting that it’s a topic for the off-season. Fitness boss Andrew Russell is set to leave at the end of the season.
The Blues are hoping the trip to Perth will help with team bonding and bring energy from the debutants. Voss also emphasized the need for improvement in defense after a poor performance against Hawthorn.
“We need to evaluate how much injuries affected us versus how much our defensive system failed,” he said. “The fact is, we didn’t defend hard enough as a team. While personnel is often discussed, the key is the attitude towards defense, and it wasn’t right last weekend.”
