Derby County parted ways with nine players at the end of last season, including five midfielders, creating a pressing need to reinforce that position. They’ve since added Ebou Adams, Kenzo Goudmijn, Ben Osborn, and David Ozoh. Despite these additions, Paul Warne remains eager to secure another midfielder before the transfer deadline next week.
Derby County targeting new midfielder before Tuesday
Following a post-match conversation with Warne, journalist Dominic Dietrich posted on X: “Paul Warne is hopeful to secure a midfielder on loan before the Barrow match on Tuesday. Among the three targets, one might be a free agent, while the other two are loans. Warne quickly dismissed any link to Tyreece John-Jules.”
Who could the Rams be looking at?
Derby County’s target remains unclear, but a loan deal might indicate a focus on Premier League players to strengthen their squad. Ozoh, who has impressed since arriving from Crystal Palace, may have influenced this approach. Free agent options include Jack Cork, released by Burnley, and former top-flight players Dan Potts, Emiliano Marcondes, and Fred Onyedinma. In the Championship, experienced players like Jake Livermore, Corry Evans, and Jeff Hendrick could also be considered. Derby is looking for impactful signings, especially after losing leaders like Conor Hourihane, so an experienced player on a free transfer could be valuable.
