Millwall reportedly in driving seat to sign Middlesbrough striker after Preston links

Josh Coburn, a striker for Middlesbrough who has recently been linked to Preston North End, is supposedly in the lead race to join Millwall.

The 21-year-old had reportedly been courted by the Lions for several weeks, but PNE was rumoured to have entered the competition early this week. According to reports, Millwall was having problems with valuation, but now a loan arrangement appears to be in the works. The Northern Echo reports that on Thursday night, discussions on a temporary move to The Den were held between Middlesbrough and Millwall.

Mihailo Ivanovic, a Serbian striker, is expected to sign a record-breaking contract with the Lions, but manager Neil Harris wants two strikers through the door after Tom Bradshaw was injured. On transfer deadline day, PNE is rumoured to be pursuing a winger. Though he declined to comment on whether a transfer was being considered, Paul Heckingbottom, the manager of North End, did mention that Coburn would fit Preston.

“I know him as a player,” he remarked. Could he fit us? Yes. Are we in for him, and is it something we can resolve? Since there are a lot of players, I wouldn’t tell you. Some of their circumstances are ideal for us, and we may stand a chance of obtaining them. Are they, however, the appropriate players for us?

Some players are just beyond our reach, so it might just be a pipe dream. Even though we might not succeed, we must nonetheless make an effort. Yes, there are a number of people that we are talking to and about. Going through them all is useless because there is no need once I accept one.”

“There’s plenty of interest in Josh and plenty of teams would love to have him but from my point of view nothing has changed as yet,” Boro manager Carrick responded when questioned about Coburn on Thursday. It’s not only Josh, I promise. It’s okay that I’m sitting here right now, but there are still more than two days left, and a lot may still happen. Though certain things seem to pop out of nowhere, I’m content with how things are going because we’re making the correct decisions and should benefit from them in the long run.”
