Southampton are close to securing another signing before the 11 pm deadline today.

The Saints have already confirmed the signing of Aaron Ramsdale, who joined from Arsenal. The club is working on several other deals.

According to Alex Crook, Southampton are close to securing the permanent signing of Ryan Fraser from Newcastle United.

The Scotland international joined the Saints last season on loan from Newcastle United and made valuable contributions as they quickly returned to the Premier League.

Fraser has been keen on a return since winning the play-off final, and Southampton appear to have struck a deal to get him to St Mary’s.

The former AFC Bournemouth winger made 44 appearances for Saints last season and scored eight times.

This has been a massive transfer window for Southampton, and they have added tremendous depth and quality to the side.

Fraser coming back to the side would be a massive boost to the dressing room after his tremendous contribution last season.

Fraser is not in Eddie Howe’s plans and it makes sense for the Magpies to offload him.

He joined Newcastle in the summer of 2020 on a five-year deal after making over 200 appearances for Bournemouth.

In three seasons at the club, he has managed less than 60 games in all competitions, and it became very clear that the Magpies would sell him at some point.

Fraser hasn’t played a game since returning to Tyneside, and his exit from the club was anticipated.

It’s good for him that he will return to St Mary’s, which means he will be able to continue from where he left off and make contributions immediately.

He is a vastly experienced player. He has played both in the Championship and in the Premier League and has scored 41 goals in his club career in over 350 games.

Southampton, meanwhile, are in talks with MLS side New England Revolution over signing teenage midfielder Noel Buck.
