Kenny Miller has one major regret from his time playing for both Rangers and Celtic—not scoring enough goals for the latter.
The former Scotland striker is part of a very rare group of players who have crossed the Old Firm divide post-war, and out of the five who have done so, he is the only one to have switched allegiances twice.
Miller left Rangers after just one season in 2001, moved to Wolves for five years, and then joined Celtic. In an interview with the Daily Record, Miller reflected, “I knew it wasn’t just a normal transfer.
“But I thought, ‘You know what? I’m going to do it! I want to play for a successful team. I don’t want to be fighting mid-table—I want to go and win trophies.’ Celtic gave me that opportunity.
“Was it the right move, the wrong move? Do I have any regrets? No, because it did exactly what I thought it would. It brought a league title, a Scottish Cup win, and a place in the last 16 of the Champions League.
“Yes, it was tough. There were a lot of things that happen off the field that you have to deal with. That never bothered me.”
While Miller has no regrets about making the move, he does wish he had been more prolific in front of goal. After a lackluster season in which he netted 11 goals in 46 games, he returned to England with newly-promoted Premier League side Derby County.
“I didn’t score enough goals that season, and I look back thinking I could have done better in that aspect,” he reflected. “But it’s not about individual accolades or achievements.
“For Rangers and Celtic, it’s about winning trophies and competing in Europe—you’ve got to progress. All those boxes were ticked.”
