Reading FC sign player but still no takeover …..WHY ?

Chem Campbell

Reading completed their first signing of the new season late on Friday night, despite initial doubts. On Thursday, manager Rubén Sellés had stated that a new signing wouldn’t be feasible before the takeover. However, in a surprising turn of events, the club announced they had secured 21-year-old Chem Campbell on a four-month loan from Wolves.

In their announcement, the club stated that the signing was made possible thanks to the cooperation of “all parties, including the EFL.”

Bolster

Regarding securing the forward’s short-term future, Reading Manager Rubén Sellés commented:

“We’re thrilled to have signed Chem, a player who will enhance our attacking options for the first half of the League One season. He has progressed through some of the top Academy setups in the country and has already gained experience at the highest level of English football. We’re excited to bring him to Reading and offer him a chance to make an impact and continue his development.”

Takeover

Just moments before the signing was announced, the club stated that the takeover was not yet finalized.

Club statement:

“The takeover process includes the transfer of various properties, both physical and intellectual. Furthermore, the stakeholders involved span 14 time zones globally, necessitating adherence to numerous local laws and regulations.”

The statement confirmed that the prospective owners had received approval from the EFL and would be attending the match against Charlton on Saturday.
