All the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding the Championship clubs after a busy Saturday.

Millwall sent transfer warning as Leeds set for January striker deal

Attention now turns to next weekend after what will likely be a Sunday of rest for both teams. In the meantime, we have rounded up all the latest news surrounding the Championship clubs.

Rowett on Esse

Former Millwall boss Gary Rowett has been gushing over Lions prospect Romain Esse on Sky Sports. “Premier League clubs will be looking at him very, very closely,” he said

“He has got so much ability. Honestly, when he first came into the team a couple of years ago, he was one of those kids you look at and you think ‘wow’. I don’t think he’s put that into consistent performances on the pitch just yet, but if he does, he’s a superstar in the making. He has got absolutely everything.

“I’m expecting big things this season, he’s started it well, scoring a couple of goals, but he just needs a run of games. That’s like any young player, when he plays badly, he needs to stay in the team if he can – I know it’s difficult for a manager, but he’s got so much quality, and I’ve been really impressed with him. He does everything right in training, he’s got such a lovely attitude. He’s the first one out for training, shaking everyone’s hands, he’s so respectful, and he’s got that little bit of X-Factor. For Millwall, sometimes it’s easy to pick players who are going to work hard, that will give the fans what they want, but Esse can give you something different.”

Cifuentes admission

Marti Cifuentes has said his QPR side lacked quality in their draw with Wednesday, but he was pleased with the second half response. “We lacked a little bit of quality to get through Sheffield Wednesday’s press and attack behind them in the first half. But we were much better after half-time,” he told the club website.

“It’s not easy to play against Sheffield Wednesday. They are highly aggressive in their pressing and the way they play is about forcing you into a mistake. Like I said, we need to be better than we were in the first half but we were. It’s important in this league that you are able to stay in games when the opposition are on top. We managed to create some chances in the second half and then they scored with one of the few chances they had after half-time.

“It was a hectic finish – but I think we deserved a point given how we played in the second half. All credit to the team, they continue to show resilience and never give up. However things are going, they are always all-in to try to take something from the game.”

Leeds set for striker deal

Leeds United are reportedly lining up a striker deal ahead of the January transfer window having lost a number of attacking players during the summer. According to Football Insider, Leeds have already ‘set cash aside’ to add a new striker in the winter window.

The Whites have been linked with a number of strikers with Patrick Bamford struggling to impress, and while their priority target is not clear, they are said to have decided they will snap up a new frontman for the second half of the campaign.
