Following Chesterfield’s Saturday matchup with Grimsby Town, an arrest of a teenager was made possible by the heavy police presence in the town following unrest during a previous meeting between the two teams.
Following chaos during a previous meeting between the teams, Chesterfield FC and Grimsby Town at the SMH Group Stadium on September 7th had a heavy police presence.
According to Derbyshire Police, a 16-year-old lad was taken into custody after the game on suspicion of violating public order.
Prior to this season, the two teams’ most recent meeting took place on April 2, 2022. Five Grimsby supporters were taken into custody on that particular day for a variety of crimes, such as pitch invasion, drug use, public intoxication, and possession of fireworks. When a Chesterfield supporter disobeyed his football ban, he was arrested.
That day, there was a commotion outside the Donkey Derby pub on Sheffield Road that resulted in a significant head injury for a thirty-something Grimsby supporter. According to police, several supporters of both teams were engaged.
A police cruiser eventually pulled up, and several of the fans involved in the brawl on the road fled the scene, according to a social media video that went viral.
