Alfredo Morelos joined the Gers in 2017 during the Pedro Caixinha revolution, one of the most bizarre transfer windows in the club’s history. Morelos is one of several Latin football players who joined the team.
However, the Colombian went on to make history at Ibrox for all the right reasons, while others like Eduardo Herrera and Carlos Peña had memorable stays for all the wrong reasons.
Now, as bullfighter Pedro Caixinha attempts to contain a resurgent Bufalo in Brazil, Morelos, the Rangers’ record European goal scorer (29), and the club’s most red-carded player ever (8), has just defeated the man who brought him to Ibrox.
Alfredo Morelos helps dump Pedro Caixinha in Brazil
After managing football teams in Portugal, Mexico, Qatar, Scotland, Saudi Arabia, and Argentina, Pedro Caixinha is currently a professional in Brazil.
The Portuguese manager, who took over at Red Bull Bragantino in December 2022, seems to have settled well in Sao Paolo and has a contract there through 2025.
Currently playing for Santos in the Brazilian second division, Alfredo Morelos faced the team in the Campeonato Paulista.
And although Santos was relegated to 10 men for the remainder of the game, the Colombian ended up being the happier of the two after coming off the bench with 12 minutes remaining. Santos went on to win 3-1.
As a result of the outcome, Alfredo Morelos and Santos have advanced to the competition’s final round, where they will take on Novorizontino or Palmeiras.
Santos, who have stepped up their divisions to defeat the Brazilian elite team, has achieved an impressive outcome.
Ex-Rangers pair now central in South America
Pedro Caixinha left Ibrox with a decent career, not bad for someone who got it so wrong at Rangers.
Even though the former Rangers manager has crashed out of the cup here, working for the renowned Red Bull group of teams, which also includes RB Leipzig, RB Salzburg, and the New York Red Bulls, is a cushty number.
When Caixinha took over as Rangers’ manager in March 2017, his tenure at the Ibrox club was costly and unsuccessful, lasting just over seven months.
After a dismal first stint with Santos in the latter half of the previous campaign, Alfredo Morelos is currently returning to form and fitness in Brazil as Pele and Neymar’s former team attempt to immediately ascend from their historic demotion from the previous campaign.
Over the course of six seasons, the Colombian striker made 269 appearances for Rangers, tallying 124 goals and dishing out 58 assists.
Following the conclusion of the Campeonato Paulista, the Brazilian league season will begin in mid-April.
