BREAKING-Jamal Lewis reflects on Sao Paulo debut

The 26-year-old earned his Brasileirão debut as a second-half substitute in Sunday’s 1-0 away victory over Cruzeiro, Brazil’s elite club football championship.

Before going to Newcastle, Lewis had his breakout season at Norwich, where he won a domestic title.

However, in the last days of the summer transfer window, the aggressive left-back agreed to a surprise season-long loan with a buy option to try his luck in South America.

Tricolour is now ranked fifth in the Libertadores quarterfinals, which are often thought of as the continent’s Champions League counterpart. On Wednesday night (local time), Tricolour will play their first leg against leaders Botafogo.

The Northern Irish international remarked, “I am grateful to the fans; even though it was an away game, it was great to see them, they made a lot of noise and supported the players.” I’ve watched games at home, and it would be amazing to be able to play at home and experience all of this love and passion.

Brazil’s Sao Paulo is a major club, and European football fans, particularly those in England, hold Brazilian football in high respect. We want to win, take home the trophy, and add another “World Cup” to our collection. I’m only now getting here.

“I have spent my whole playing career in England, but I have always expressed a desire to play in a league abroad, experience a different culture, and play a different kind of sport.

“The career is brief, but it’s a fantastic chance to play in a new location, win games, take home trophies, and be a part of a team that will accomplish a lot.” I want to spend a lot of time at this club because it’s an exciting initiative.

Lewis is prepared to take on any challenge, both on and off the pitch.

“Learning to speak Portuguese is a process.” I plan to enrol in a few classes. Upon his official unveiling, he declared, “I’d love to embrace the city’s culture and learn the language.” “It’s not so much about the environment adapting to me as it is about me adapting to it.”

“I’m going to put a lot of effort into learning Portuguese so I can interact with the players and supporters. I’m getting aid from other athletes, but in a few weeks I’ll have a tutor, and I want to study Portuguese.

Brazil is renowned for its people, culture, and childhood passion for football. I adore the beaches, Brazilian football, and World Cup players like Ronaldinho. I’m thrilled to be playing in Brazil and am eager to fully immerse myself in the local way of life.

“The calibre of the league and Brazilian football is demonstrated by the large number of athletes visiting Brazil. I wish to benefit from it.
