The Detroit Lions have long been in need of a wide receiver with more bulk. It was a dumb concept to think Josh Reynolds, who Dan Campbell specifically mentioned during the preseason as having a significant role that wasn’t filled, could be replaced internally. To provide possible reinforcements, Tim Patrick and Allen Robinson were added to the practice squad.
For the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Sunday, Patrick was promoted to the active roster. He played 33 snaps, which was more than expected, and had two 12-yard receptions.
On Monday, when questioned about Patrick, Campbell made it rather evident that the veteran has earned a significant part in the Lions’ offence going ahead.
Campbell remarked, “We liked him.” “It was wonderful to behold. It was, in my opinion, a successful showing. being able to deploy him and include him in some of our activities. Getting him a little bit more playing time would be wonderful.”However, I believe that’s what we’ll do going ahead. I believe the goal is to see if we can use him a little more and open this up a little. However, he is quite large and physically strong, and he has a very large catch radius. He therefore has a place here, and I anticipate us making use of him going forward.
If Patrick wants to seize the chance, he might be plucked from the practice squad by a team eager to bring him to their active roster. It’s reasonable to believe the Lions won’t wait that long to sign him to their 53-man roster, even if they can promote him from the practice squad two more times before having to do so.
To put it simply, in order to create place for Patrick, someone who is currently on the 53-man roster will need to be let go. If we are to make any sense out of what Campbell said on Monday, it might even happen this week.
When it comes down to it, these five players appear to be simple choices to create room for Patrick.
