Judewellin Michel, a Haitian-Canadian goalie, has joined the Halifax Wanderers on a short-term replacement contract in preparation for their match against Valour FC on Saturday.
In severe instances, such as when a team has less than two available goalkeepers due to a short-term injury, suspension, or unusual circumstances, the Canadian Premier League may accept the signing of a player to a Short-Term Replacement Contract.
Yann Fillion, the goalie for the Wanderers, is serving a one-match suspension from Canada Soccer for receiving too many yellow cards during the regular season. After his 2024 CPL – U SPORTS contract came to an end, goalie Daniel Clarke returned to Cape Breton University, the Wanderers announced on August 15.
In 2024, Michel participated in League 1 Quebec as a player for CF Montreal U23. Prior to the 2024 season, he received an invitation to attend the first-team training camp of CF Montreal, and he routinely practices with the MLS team. In addition to being a past winner of the Goalkeeper of the Year title in Quebec college soccer, he assisted Quebec in winning the gold medal in the 2022 Canada Summer Games.
For Saturday’s game in Winnipeg, Michel will be the Wanderers’ second available goalie, behind Aiden Rushenas.
