On Sunday, Jared Goff got off to a great start, tossing two touchdowns in the first half and passing with ease against the defense of the Arizona Cardinals.
But after the break, the offense faltered, and Detroit’s defense had a chance to take center stage.

The Lions have now gone 5-0-1 versus the Cardinals since 2017, maintaining their recent winning streak. Detroit’s defense allowed just one field goal in the second half, preventing Arizona and Kyler Murray from scoring a touchdown.
In just three games this season, Aidan Hutchinson already has six and a half sacks.
Before throwing an incomplete pass in the third quarter, Goff completed 14 of his passes. In his nine-year career, this was the longest he had gone without an incomplete to begin a game. He ended up going 18 of 23 for 196 yards.
With a brilliant hook-and-ladder play shortly before halftime, Detroit (2-1) led 20–7. Goff hit Amon-Ra St. Brown with a short pass, and the running back Jahmyr Gibbs took it 20 yards for a touchdown.
Goff remarked, “We’ve been working on that one for a while.” “I felt it was a good time to make the call there.”
The Lions appeared to have a break earlier in the drive when Goff appeared to throw an interception for a touchdown, but officials determined that the play was stopped due to the two-minute warning right before the kick.
As time ran out, Matt Prater of Arizona made a 42-yard field goal, giving Detroit a 20-10 lead at the half. In the first half, Goff completed all 12 of his throws for 137 yards and two touchdowns.
With 3:52 left, Prater scored a 45-yard field goal to cut Detroit’s advantage to 20-13, but the Lions were able to burn out the clock on their subsequent drive. Goff ran eight yards for a first down to seal the victory.
