Hawthorn Hawks have suffered a significant setback heading into the 2025 AFL season, with key players ruled out due to injuries.
Forward Mitch Lewis, one of Hawthorn’s top players, sustained an ACL injury in the 2024 season, forcing him to miss a large part of that year and raising doubts over his 2025 return.
Lewis had been in great form before the injury, and the club was relying on him to be a central figure in their forward line
The Hawks’ defensive line has also been hit hard, with James Blanck tearing his ACL during an intra-club match in early 2024. This injury will likely keep Blanck out for the entirety of the 2025 season
Additionally, star defender Changkuoth Jiath suffered a recurring hamstring injury, sidelining him for several months, further deepening Hawthorn’s injury crisis
With these key players sidelined, Hawthorn faces an uphill battle to remain competitive in the upcoming season, placing extra pressure on the remaining roster to fill the gaps left by these crucial injuries. The club’s medical staff will be crucial in helping these players recover, with hopes that they can return stronger in the future
