Rangers secured a narrow and unconvincing 1-0 win over Hibernian on Sunday, with Tom Lawrence’s stunning goal sealing the three points. However, goalkeeper Jack Butland also played a pivotal role by saving a penalty from Hibs’ Mykola Kuharevich just before halftime.
Despite the win, Rangers struggled to find their best form, with Hibs applying heavy pressure, particularly in the second half. Many Rangers fans voiced their frustration over the team’s lackluster performance, with one player, loanee Václav Černý, facing significant criticism.
During the match, Černý was caught on Sky Sports cameras reacting emotionally to groans from the Rangers supporters, raising his hands and appearing to shout at the crowd. Former Rangers player Neil McCann commented that Černý needed to calm down, highlighting that the fans were upset over his failure to make the right decision with the ball.
After a disappointing display, Černý was substituted after 70 minutes. Former Rangers goalkeeper Cammy Bell later advised the winger to keep his composure and not engage with fan criticism. Speaking on *Sportscene*, Bell emphasized the need for Černý to focus on his game and control his emotions, especially given the high expectations from the Ibrox crowd.
Rangers manager Philippe Clement downplayed the incident in his post-match press conference, stating that the situation was simply a heat-of-the-moment reaction. Clement reaffirmed that Černý has a strong relationship with the fans and that the winger is still adjusting to the demands of regular football, after limited game time last season.
The incident with Černý has drawn comparisons to Sead Haksabanovic, a former Celtic winger who made headlines last summer after posting a controversial message on social media. His post led to a move away from Celtic, eventually landing at Swedish club Malmo. Haksabanovic later stated that while he understood the fans’ frustration, he felt it was necessary to speak out for the sake of his career.
