“It really started last year after I recovered from my foot injury. ‘Vossy’ told me, ‘we need you back in the team, it’s time for you to play.’ I didn’t feel like I was where I wanted to be personally, but he had confidence in me that I could perform at this level,” Boyd shared with Carlton Media.

“Playing consistently helped a lot. It gave me the opportunity to make mistakes, learn, and grow more comfortable, knowing that I truly belonged at this level.”

Boyd acknowledged the support system that helped him along the way: “A lot of people invested their time and belief in me, which made me start believing in myself. Brad Ebert last year and Aaron Hamill especially—he saw something in me that I didn’t recognize in myself at first.”

He also praised the Blues’ backline, highlighting his relationships with key figures like his long-time mentor Adam Saad, leaders Jacob Weitering and Nic Newman, and rising talent Lachie Cowan.

Boyd on becoming a fan favourite

Jordan Boyd shared with Carlton Media how he’s gaining more recognition from Carlton supporters in 2024.

Throughout the season, Boyd played pivotal roles, none more significant than his standout performance against Giants star Toby Greene in the Round 6 victory. Over the year, the sight of the long-sleeved No.37 and his headband became more familiar, not just to Carlton fans but across the broader football community.

Though Boyd’s rise in the Navy Blue is something he’s still adjusting to, his recent contract extension shows he’s eager to continue this journey.

“It’s been amazing. A couple of years ago, I was an unknown player just doing my job, and now it’s great to feel the support from the fans.

“I try to play my role, give it my all, and people seem to connect with that! I think it comes from Dad and how he gave 110 per cent in every game he played.

“It’s been pretty awesome and special to experience all the support.”
