The 2024 AFL trade period is heating up, with Fremantle and Richmond locked in a high-stakes standoff over the future of star forward Shai Bolton.
Fremantle, eager to bolster their attacking options, have made a strong push to bring the All-Australian talent back to Western Australia, but Richmond remains firm on their high asking price, leading to tense negotiations between the two clubs.
Bolton, one of the most dynamic and electrifying forwards in the league, has been a key player for Richmond in recent seasons, helping the Tigers stay competitive with his explosive pace, aerial ability, and elite goal sense.
His performance in 2024, which saw him earn his second All-Australian selection, has made him a hot commodity on the trade market, with several clubs showing interest. Speaking to the media, Richmond’s list manager confirmed that the club would not be backing down from their stance. “Shai is a generational talent, and if we’re going to entertain any trade for him, it has to be a deal that reflects his worth to our football club,” he said.
With the trade period deadline looming, both clubs remain at odds. Fremantle may have to sweeten the deal if they hope to secure the services of Bolton, while Richmond is playing hardball to ensure they get a fair return for one of their most valuable assets.
