Carlton has reportedly settled on Graham Wright as its new deputy chief executive as part of a succession plan.

Wright, who recently stepped away from the position of Collingwood football boss, is expected to serve under current CEO Brian Cook before assuming the reins in 2025 when Cook departs.

The 56-year-old is said to have landed the gig at Carlton after reportedly attracting interest from the AFL, the Adelaide Crows and Tasmania Devils.

“Graham Wright will be the CEO-elect at the Blues,” SEN’s Sam Edmund first reported on AFL Trade Radio on Wednesday morning.

“It might be called deputy CEO in the short term; this has been a 12-month operation from the Blues to find the successor for Brian Cook.

“My information is it will be Wright, formerly of Collingwood (and) formerly of Hawthorn.

“What a pick-up that could be for Carlton. One of the sharpest administrators in the business bound for Carlton.

“He’s always wanted to be a CEO, we hear, well he’s going to get that opportunity at Carlton.”

Wright relinquished his position as Collingwood football boss following its 2023 flag triumph for a sabbatical to travel with his family.

He opted not to return to his role amid rumblings of a falling out with Magpies CEO Craig Kelly, putting a full stop on brief stint after joining the fray in 2021.

“Thank you to the players, staff and supporters for making my time at Collingwood an enjoyable period of my career,” Kelly said in a statement in August.

“I am grateful to have been able to serve the Collingwood Football Club.”

The Blues are expected to officially confirm Wright’s appointment later on Wednesday.
