Watch: Najee Harris sidesteps question on what Steelers offense gains with Russell Wilson as QB1 2

The quarterback change in Pittsburgh has perplexed the media and potentially the Steelers locker room all week.

Although speculation is high that there are some big disagreements about who’s taking snaps this Sunday night against the New York Jets,Justin Fields has been benched after a 4-2 start. Yes, you read that right—not a 2-4 start, not a 1-5 start, or even a 0-6 start, but a 4-2 start.

The announcement of the shift to start Russell Wilson this coming Sunday night perplexed many people.

Fields still may have a few kinks to work out, but a lot of what plagued him during his three seasons with the Chicago Bears seems to be a thing of the past, and a lot of the locker room seems to have the back of the former starting quarterback.

This would make any reporter want to do some digging to see how the offensive players view the change at QB.

Najee Harris

Steelers running back Najee Harris was asked about what the offense gains with Wilson now under center. There was a long pause, and then Harris pivoted onto the eleven players on the offense, not just one.

In Harris’ long response to the question, he said comments like, “We got to actually game plan. I mean, you guys focus so much on one player, as if it’s all 11 of us. You guys are worried about the quarterback, but I’m worried about all 11: the quarterback, the line, the receivers, and the running back, you know?”

His full statement is below.

Harris says a lot about Fields rather than Wilson. “…we’re all proud of him, and don’t be so hard on yourself. We got your back. I got your back.”
It’s easy to want to jump at the idea that Harris and the rest of the offense are against the quarterback change.

Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith has hinted that the move seemed very sudden and unconventional.

Harris knows he, like the other starters, has a job to do on Sunday, but the pressure is on both Wilson and Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin right now.
