The Detroit Lions took down the NFC’s remaining undefeated team on Sunday behind running back Jahmyr Gibbs.
Gibbs ran for 116 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries and caught four passes for 44 yards in the Lions’ 31-29 victory over the Minnesota Vikings.
Gibbs’ third 100-yard rushing game of his career included his longest NFL run – a 45-yard touchdown as Detroit cut Minnesota’s lead to 10-7 with 13:42 left in the first half.
Gibbs also scored on an 8-yard run as the Lions took a 21-10 lead with 26 seconds remaining in the first half.
“He was huge,” Detroit coach Dan Campbell said. “Whatever it was – 160 all-purpose yards – and really came to life. And we felt like Gibby’s been so close to just exploding, and we felt like this was the game. And he really came to life when we needed it most. …
Gibbs played for the third time in his career against the Vikings. Detroit has won all the games, with Gibbs running for 234 yards and five touchdowns on 43 carries and catching eight passes for 64 yards.
On Sunday, Gibbs became the second Detroit player to run for a touchdown in three consecutive games against Minnesota, joining Billy Sims from the 1981 and 1982 seasons.
For the fifth straight game, Gibbs averaged at least 5.0 yards per carry while recording at least 10 rushing attempts. During the NFL’s AFC/NFC era, the record such streak is six games, established by the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Franco Harris in 1972 and equaled by the Buffalo Bills’ O.J. Simpson in 1973, Tennessee Titans’ Chris Johnson in 2009 and Vikings’ Adrian Peterson in 2012.
Nine other players, including Gibbs, have had five-game streaks. Gibbs and Barry Sanders, who did so in 1990 and 1997, were the only Detroit players with four-game streaks of at least 5.0 yards per carry on at least 10 carries.
· Vikings kicker Will Reichard (Hoover) made all his kicks, connecting for three field goals and two extra points. Reichard made field goals of 57, 42 and 48 yards. The rookie has hit 12 field goals and 18 extra points without a miss this season. Reichard is 4-for-4 from 50 yards and out, including a long of 58.
· Josh Jacobs started at running back for the Packers. Jacobs ran for 76 yards on 12 carries and caught five passes for 16 yards and one touchdown. Jacobs ran into the end zone with a pass from quarterback Jordan Love for an 8-yard score that was the first touchdown reception of his NFL career.
Robinson scored on an 8-yard run as Washington took a 17-0 lead with 11:35 left in the first half. Robinson has run for six touchdowns in six games this season.
· Panthers quarterback Bryce Young took the final three offensive snaps of the game for Carolina in relief of Andy Dalton. He completed two passes – one for a 2-yard gain and the other for a 6-yard loss.
· Najee Harris started at running back for the Steelers. Harris recorded his second straight 100-yard game as he ran for 102 yards and one touchdown on 21 carries. Harris scored the game’s final touchdown on a 10-yard run with 26 seconds left to play.
· Quinnen Williams (Wenonah) started at defensive tackle for the Jets. Williams made one tackle and registered one quarterback hit.
