Alabama Coach Shares Key Advice to Kendrick Law Following Critical Personal Foul in Tennessee Showdown

Alabama WR Coach Addresses Kendrick Law’s Critical Personal Foul in Tennessee Loss

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Penalties were a significant issue for Alabama during their recent defeat against Tennessee, with coach Kalen DeBoer emphasizing the need to avoid self-sabotage. However, none proved more consequential than the personal foul committed by wide receiver Kendrick Law late in the game, when Alabama was trailing by four points.

With just under two minutes remaining, Law’s altercation with a Tennessee defensive back escalated a challenging fourth-and-7 situation into an almost insurmountable fourth-and-22. In the aftermath, receiver coach JaMarcus Shephard shared an important message with Law, reflecting on his journey back from injury and the support he received from the team’s staff.

“It was unfortunate for our football team,” Shephard stated. “That penalty put us at a serious disadvantage in our quest to win. I told him, ‘That just can’t happen.’ There are so many people on this staff, from Dr. G to our athletic trainers, who worked hard to help him recover. In that moment, he took away their chance to celebrate a victory because he was focused on himself. It’s not just about one player; it’s about the entire team and the 150 other people on the sideline who want to enjoy a win, too.”

Afterward, when asked about potential referee influence on the game, Shephard chose to remain focused on his team’s performance rather than external factors. “The refs called the game, and we need to respond to that,” he said. “Complaining isn’t in my nature. We have to deal with the circumstances we face and hope for a favorable outcome.”

As Alabama prepares to regroup, the lessons from this loss will resonate, reminding players that their actions have consequences not only for themselves but for the entire team.
