The Brisbane Lions have confirmed additional list changes as it prepares for next month’s Telstra AFL National Draft and the 2025 season.

Defender Jaxon Prior has been informed he will not be offered a contract for 2025.

Prior, selected with Pick 59 in the 2019 national draft, made his debut in Round 2 of 2020 before going on to play 39 games across five seasons.

The 23-year-old Western Australian was a versatile member of the Lions defence who could play as a small and tall defender.

Brisbane Lions General Manager Football, Danny Daly said the club thanks Prior for his services and wishes him all the best for the future.

“Jaxon showed encouraging development since being drafted and played a role in our success at AFL and VFL level,” Daly said.

“He played strong patches of football this season, however, given the cut-throat nature of professional sport we need to make tough decisions with list spots.

“We would like to thank Jaxon, his partner Bronte and his family for their contribution to the Brisbane Lions for the past five seasons.”

The club has also advised mid-season draftee Darcy Craven and defender Darragh Joyce of its intention to re-select them through the rookie draft for the 2025 season.

Prior joins Kalin Lane and Carter Michael in not being offered a contract for next year.

While veteran midfielder Jarryd Lyons and premiership forward Joe Daniher have retired.
