Bernardo Silva makes honest Southampton admission after Manchester City’s narrow win today

Manchester City hosted Southampton in the Premier League and Saturday and, though the hosts won, it wasn’t easy for them.

The Citizens broke the deadlock early on through Erling Haaland, and many probably thought they would run away with it.

Instead, Southampton battled bravely, holding their own against the Premier League champions and even coming close to scoring.

In first-half injury time, Cameron Archer got past Ruben Dias, moved onto his left foot and had a go with an effort that crashed off the crossbar.

Southampton also threatened towards the end of the game, which meant the final whistle was met with relief by the Manchester City contingent.

After the game, Citizens midfielder Bernardo Silva was eager to praise the Saints, admitting it was not an easy game for the hosts.

Bernardo Silva says Southampton deserve more points than what they have

Silva said Russell Martin’s charges deserve to have more points than they currently have, and admitted it wasn’t easy for City’s defenders on the day.

“We have a lot of respect for every team in the Premier League,” Silva told Sky Sports News.

“I have watched them and they have deserved more points than what they have. A lot of respect for them, they press high and build-up.

“It is not easy for our defenders so it was a tough game for us. Very happy with the three points. A lot of credit for what they did here today.”

What next for Southampton and Man City?

Southampton are next in action on Tuesday night when they host Stoke City in the Carabao Cup last 16 before then hosting Everton in the Premier League next Saturday.

Meanwhile, Man City head to Tottenham in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night before playing away at Bournemouth next Saturday.
