Simon Jordan recently weighed in on Rangers’ reaction to yet another postponement of their match against Dundee, chastising the Ibrox club for their outspoken comments. Jordan argued that Rangers should have played the game last week before the Hoops’ match at Ibrox, bringing up Celtic and the current Glasgow derby.
The Rangers voiced their dissatisfaction when their encounter at Dens Park was postponed once more because of a soggy field, marking the seventh occasion this season that Dundee’s home games had been interfered with. Given the importance of the game in the Premiership, Rangers’ emphatic response has created controversy. The rescheduled fixture is now scheduled for next Wednesday.
Jordan, a talkSPORT analyst and former Crystal Palace owner, questioned Rangers’ position and asked why the match wasn’t played last week. He pointed out that the SPFL had suggested that the game be played on April 2 or 3, right before the much awaited Glasgow Derby fixture, but both clubs had turned that offer down. Jordan called the Rangers’ statement “ridiculous, hypocritical, and unnecessary,” highlighting the irony of the team’s position in light of their own problems, such as ticket allotment for Celtics games.
Jordan pointed out to Jim White how ironic it was that the Rangers were criticizing another team for being unprofessional when they were dealing with their own issues. He made the argument that Rangers’ objections sounded unfounded if they had actually had the opportunity to play the game earlier but had chosen not to. Jordan similarly criticized the financial and facility conditions in the Scottish Premiership, but he took issue with Rangers’ tone, saying it came across as haughty and patronizing.
The league doesn’t look good with so many postponements, and although we can sympathize with the Ibrox club, their statement was ineffective and patronizing.
While it is important to consider the needs of away fans, it is also necessary to wonder why the game was called off on Wednesday night when there was a clear chance to proceed.
It affects Celtic because we’re unsure of our opponents heading into the final stretch and this game is still on the back burner. When the game does go, most people think The Rangers will defeat Dundee and win three points, putting the Ibrox club ahead. But until it’s performed, it’s still possible they won’t.
