Portsmouth faithful share Abu Kamara verdicts after winger hands in Norwich transfer request

Pompey supporters haven’t held back while anticipating a possible reunion with the star who won a promotion.

Pompey fans on Abu Kamara after winger hands in transfer request

Pompey supporters have reacted enthusiastically to the announcement that Norwich City winger Abu Kamara, a former Blues loanee, has submitted a transfer request. The 21-year-old was a crowd favourite in the 2023–24 season, helping the team win promotion to the Championship by tallying eight goals and 10 assists in 46 league games.

The winger, whose current contract has one year left on it with the option of a one-year extension, is reportedly being watched by other Championship clubs.

The Blues’ sports director, Rich Hughes, told The News that he was not going to give up on Kamara and that the Fratton Park team had been extremely hesitant to allow him return to Norwich. However, Mousinho was a little more pessimistic last week when he projected Kamara to stay at Carrow Road and earn a starting position under new Canaries manager Johannes Hoff Thorup.

But now that things have changed, the Fratton Park supporters are vocal and have a lot to say about the likelihood of a Kamara-Fratton Park reunion. Some say Mousinho and the Blues board might not be able to afford the alleged £3 million, while others are just hoping to see their beloved winger back in Blue as soon as possible.

Following their comments on social media, Pompey supporters said what follows…

“With the way Silvera is performing, we don’t need him. It would be preferable to use the money he would cost elsewhere. “I would love him in return.” However, £3m+ is a lot, and I doubt the team could afford it. Still, I’d take the chance. Whoever dares wins.

“Yes, without a doubt—a terrific investment, the boy will flourish back with us—a no-brainer, worth every cent.”

“Look at it this way: unless it’s a loan, it’s not going to happen. Alex Robertson cost Cardiff $3 million, and we weren’t able to pay that.”

“In all honesty, I doubt it. If he becomes available, there’s a good chance bigger fish will want him more than we will.”

“As much as I appreciate the Eisners spending so much money on the club’s infrastructure. The stadium and the training facilities. They must understand that in the end, we will have to offer some actual cash in exchange for respectable athletes. It’s all well and well to spend a few hundredk on players from lower leagues. However, players like Robertson or Kamara are always lost to us.

“I don’t believe the actual problem is the transfer cost. It will be the wages’ long-term expense. Realistically, his salary at Norwich would have exceeded any current Pompey salary. He would thus have to accept a pay reduction, or other players would demand more money in order to make up for it.

John Mousinho said a while back that the club was keeping an eye on the Abu Kamara situation and would be prepared to act if the opportunity to sign him presented itself. This is your opportunity to make it happen.

“It seems likely that he simply wants to give Norwich the option to accept a better contract with more money, or he wants to leave if x club(s) offers him a better deal.”

The majority of us would give anything to see Abu wearing a Pompey shirt once more. But, I genuinely don’t think we would pay more than £3 million for a player. It’s unfortunate since he is adored by his supporters and is undoubtedly aware that Hughes and (Mousinho) provide the ideal environment for developing his skill. And if he were to succeed and meet the requirements for a young player, you could triple the purchase price and bolster the team in the same way that Leeds is. It is tantalising to consider Yengi, Lang, Sorensen, Kamara, and Bishop as offensive options.

“He is a player who merits a substantial financial investment.” This young man has so much promise, and it doesn’t even seem like a risk in my opinion. Let’s get it done; £2 million with add-ons and a sell-on clause. Assuming he desires to return home.

“I sincerely hope he returns to Pompey; he is greatly missed. Sign him up!”

Well, a lot depends on the club’s goals and the kind of young kid who best matches their model. albeit improbable. Will likely be a permanent keeper and three or four loans.
