BREAKING-Barnsley boss blames his players for ruining his big day out after Man Utd thrashing

Barnsley manager Darrell Clarke

Following Tuesday night’s 7-0 thumping by Manchester United, Barnsley boss Darrell Clarke blasted his team, saying they had wrecked his “proud night.”

At Old Trafford, the Red Devils thrashed their League One rivals, led by double goals from Christian Eriksen, Alejandro Garnacho, and Marcus Rashford. Anthony also won and converted a penalty kick.

The South Yorkshire team appeared to be a threat down their right flank and played a very competitive first half, but their defence was terrible.

Although there was some justification for criticism over Barnsley’s first setup, Clarke expressed his belief that his players were ultimately responsible for the awful evening.

“I’ve made an attempt at them.” He told the Barnsley Chronicle, “I wasn’t happy with the performance. I know we came to Man United, who have world-class players, but I wasn’t happy with how we played.”

“Mael de Gevigney emerged as the sole player to receive credit.” Were some of them affected by the occasion? Most likely, yes. We must comprehend what it takes to be among the best players.

Never again will I hear one of them discussing how awful certain Premier League players are. They’re a long way away. The players tonight fell far short of the expectations of even the best Barnsley or Premier League players.

Manchester United players celebrate scoring a goal against Barnsley in the Carabao Cup

I was unaware of some of the blunders made for the goals. We were completely wrong. My main concern was that we wouldn’t treat ourselves fairly, and I don’t think we succeeded.

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, acknowledged that things were not going well for them at first, but he was happy with how his team developed and took advantage of Barnsley’s several errors.

“It was a challenging beginning, but once we figured out the shape, it’s not so strange because this is the team’s first time playing together,” he remarked. But after we figured out the patterns and the shape, we scored some fantastic goals. The first came from [Marcus] Rashford, which was a really excellent goal, but some of the other goals were also pretty terrific.

“We played very quickly and very ruthlessly in front of the goal.”
