A defender has arranged a reunion with Birmingham City as he has agreed to join them on a free transfer.

Former Birmingham City academy product Geraldo Bajrami has completed a move to League One side Burton Albion this week, marking a return to the club where he was nurtured at academy level.

Hailing from Quinton, the 24-year-old progressed through the Blues academy and earned his first professional contract in 2018. He had a notable spell in the first-team under Pep Clotet during the 2019-20 season, featuring in matches against West Bromwich Albion and Hull City before a loan stint at Solihull Moors.

Following the expiration of his Birmingham City contract in 2021, Bajrami joined Kidderminster Harriers where he excelled, making 42 appearances in the National League North. His impressive performances earned him a move to Notts County in 2022, where he played a key role in their promotion back to the EFL.

However, his progress was hampered by a serious knee injury during an EFL Cup match against Lincoln City last August, sidelining him for the entire season. Despite being offered a new deal at Notts County, Bajrami opted to move on and has now secured a move to Burton Albion, citing the club’s ambitious project and desire to play at a higher level as key reasons for his decision.

Reflecting on his move, Bajrami stated, “It’s a good project to be a part of. The owners explained why they’ve picked Burton Albion, why they’ve invested in it, the playing style that they want to play, the type of players that they want to bring in, and it excited me – that’s why I’m here today.”

Bajrami’s move sets up a future reunion with Birmingham City, with fixture details to be unveiled upon the release of the schedule on June 26th.
