Ex-Birmingham City Star Linked With Premier League Move.
Former Birmingham City striker Che Adams may be on the move this summer, with his contract at Southampton nearing its end and his future undecided.
Adams’ future could hinge on whether Southampton secures promotion to the Premier League. They face Leeds United in the Championship play-off final next weekend, and after beating Leeds on the final day of the season, they are optimistic about their chances.
There is uncertainty about Adams’ involvement in the final, as he missed both semi-final legs against West Bromwich Albion. Following a 0-0 draw at The Hawthorns, Southampton secured their place at Wembley with a comfortable 3-1 victory in the return leg.
Adams, who made a name for himself during a successful three-year spell at Birmingham City from 2016 to 2019, has been a key player for Southampton since joining the club. However, he now seems out of favor and likely to move, with a return to the Premier League not surprising.
This season marked Adams’ first back in the Championship since leaving Birmingham in 2019, with Southampton relegated from the top flight last season. He made 116 appearances for Birmingham, scoring 34 goals and providing 13 assists, which earned him a significant move to St Mary’s.
Now 27, Adams is entering his prime years and aims to play in the Premier League. According to TEAMtalk, Wolves are leading the race for his signature, with Leeds United and Everton also showing interest.
Whether Adams plays in the play-off final remains uncertain, and he may have already played his last game for Southampton.
Writer’s View
Given his track record, Adams was always bound to attract attention, and a return to the Premier League, potentially with Wolves, seems imminent. The £15 million fee Southampton paid Birmingham will not be matched due to his expiring contract, representing a missed financial opportunity for the Saints as they lose one of their key players. A change of scenery could spark further improvement for Adams.
