The 60-year-old, who had been on sick leave since February, notified the club of his immediate resignation in order to assist with Birmingham’s rebuilding efforts for the upcoming League One season starting in August.
Blues co-owner Tom Wagner expressed disappointment at Tony’s departure but acknowledged his prioritization of health and family.
Tony Mowbray, who took over from Wayne Rooney in early January, won four out of eight matches before temporarily stepping down in February due to health reasons. His assistant, Mark Venus, also resigned at that time, leading to the return of former Blues manager Gary Rowett.
Despite their efforts, Birmingham was unable to avoid relegation, prompting Mowbray’s decision to focus on his recovery and spend time with his family.
Wagner praised Mowbray’s leadership skills and dedication during his brief tenure at the club, emphasizing his value as both a professional and a person.
