John Fleck, a seasoned former Sheffield United midfielder, is another noteworthy addition to Chesterfield.
After working out with the Spiritites, the 33-year-old signed a deal that will last until the end of the current campaign.
“I’m happy to be here,” he remarked. “I’m really happy that I have the opportunity to sign until the end of the season, as I have been training here for just over a week.” Just getting back into the training group has been fantastic, so I’m really looking forward to it.
Fleck has a stellar resume, having won cups and league titles with the Rangers and promotions, including one to the Premier League, with the Blades. Having made over 250 games for United in the Premier League, he is a legend at Bramall Lane.
The Scot, who left Blackburn Rovers at the end of the previous season, was available on a free transfer. He has five caps for his country. His other clubs are Blackpool and Coventry City.
The transfer window ended at the end of August, but Paul Cook, the manager, stated he would consider signing a player on a free agent basis if he thought he would improve the team.
With two spots left after Town’s squad list was submitted to the EFL last week, three were set aside for acquisitions like these.
Along with Mike Jones, Jenson Metcalfe, Darren Oldaker, and Ollie Banks, he will fight for a spot in centre midfield.
On Saturday, Fleck might play in his first game against Port Vale.
