After the Bruins beat his Flyers in overtime, the Philadelphia coach didn’t like the officiating and what he thought the Bruins did to influence it on Saturday at TD Garden.
Before fielding a question in the postgame, he launched right into the complaint.
“Yeah, let me start. One thing I teach my team to do is not dive,” he said. “Maybe I should start teaching them that, the way this has gone here, the way this (stuff) goes on, maybe I should start teaching them how to dive.”
The Flyers were called for eight penalties in the game compared to four on the Bruins. Each team had one power-play goal.
Tortorella was demonstratively irked by the tripping call on Garnet Hathway midway through the third period when he thought Mason Lohrei was spilled by minimal contact.
The Bruins got another power play late in the when Sean Couturier was whistled for tripping David Pastrnak with 1:57 left in regulation and the score tied 2-2.
“That’s one of the things we talk most about. We have to play an honest game. There’s not cheating,” no embarrassing referees,” Tortorella said. “The (stuff) that went on here tonight was just ridiculous. I’m proud of the way our team played. Did we piss another one away? Yeah, but other people had a little bit to do with that also.”
