Fabian Hurzeler was tight-lipped when asked about the potential signing of Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley, who is rumored to be on the brink of a high-profile move to Brighton.

The 23-year-old is expected to leave the Scottish Premiership champions soon, with a £30 million transfer likely to set a new Scottish transfer record. O’Riley is reported to have traveled south and is anticipated to sign a five-year contract with Brighton.

After Brighton’s 2-1 victory over Manchester United on Saturday, Hurzeler was asked about the transfer but kept his comments vague, adding to the speculation about O’Riley’s imminent arrival.

“Let’s see what happens,” Hurzeler told TNT Sports with a smile. “I won’t discuss players who haven’t been signed yet. It’s important that players know the plans for them to ensure transparency, but that’s not something I’ll talk about publicly.”

Celtic captain Callum McGregor praised O’Riley’s professionalism amid the transfer speculation.

“He’s been great,” McGregor said. “I’m here to support him if he needs it, but I don’t want to influence his decision or make him feel there’s any agenda.

“He’s been fantastic in how he’s handled the situation, showing respect in training and in his performances. Whatever happens, he can be proud of how he’s conducted himself.”
