Brisbane Broncos Star Kotoni Staggs Shares Heartwarming Proposal Details
Brisbane Broncos player Kotoni Staggs recently revealed the sweet details of his engagement to girlfriend Brittany Becht, a moment he meticulously planned for months. The couple, who have been together since 2021, shared their exciting news on Instagram, posting a heartfelt message alongside a white heart emoji: “for life.”
In an interview with Newswire, Staggs shared that he had been preparing for the proposal throughout the year, even customizing the ring with input from Brittany. “I have six older sisters, so they were a huge help,” he explained. One of his sisters, knowledgeable about diamonds, assisted him in selecting the perfect ring during a meeting on the Gold Coast.
The engagement unfolded in a traditional manner, as Staggs called Brittany’s father, who lives in New Zealand, to ask for his blessing. “It was a pretty emotional phone call. There were a couple of tears,” Staggs recalled. After a heartfelt exchange, her father enthusiastically approved, saying, “You can marry Brittany, 110 percent. Just look after her and make her happy.”
After picking up the ring, Staggs cleverly concealed it in his golf bag, knowing Brittany wouldn’t check there. Two days later, he took her to Ocean View Winery, an hour north of Brisbane, for the big moment, despite her initial hesitation due to the rain.
“I started shaking when we arrived,” Staggs admitted. As they settled next to a fireplace, he struggled to concentrate, making Brittany suspicious. When she stepped away to take a photo, she jokingly messaged a friend, wondering if he was about to propose.
Once she returned, Staggs found an opportunity to pop the question during a walk around a picturesque pond. As he got down on one knee, Brittany was overwhelmed with emotion and began to cry. “It turned out to be one of the best days of my life,” he said.
Staggs expressed how vital Brittany is to him, stating, “She’s been a big part of my life, through the tough times and the good times.” While they are not rushing to plan a wedding just yet, he looks forward to their future together. “For now, we’re just happy. She has a ring, and she knows I’m hers now.”
