Connor Taylor’s Speech | We thoroughly deserved the win…..

Connor Taylor stated Bristol Rovers ‘thoroughly deserved’ their 1-0 victory over Shrewsbury Town in Sky Bet League One.

Jamie Lindsay’s first-time strike into the top corner just after half-time separated the two sides, with the Gas returning to winning ways after losing 3-1 to Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

The triumph was the Pirates third in League One in October, previously coming away victorious against Charlton Athletic and Burton Albion.

Taylor was pleased with the win and was impressed with how Rovers stayed solid in the final stages.

“I think three points is all that matters,” he said. “I thought we started really well and could have gone one or two ahead. We probably had a bit of a lull 15 minutes towards the end of the first half.

“But in the second half, I thought we thoroughly deserved it. We could have gone two, three or four up, and then we didn’t. Then what always happens in football is when you don’t take your chances, the longer they are in the game when it is 1-0. We just had to dig in towards the end.

“We’re under no illusions about the feeling around the club at the moment off the back of the defeat on Saturday, but tonight all that mattered was the three points.”

Manager Matt Taylor made four alterations to the team that lost to the Terriers, with one notable inclusion being Shaq Forde. The forward made his first start for Rovers after signing from Watford in the summer, with the defender stating that he took his opportunity in the team.

“He’s been coming off the bench and making a difference,” said Taylor. “He got his chance tonight, and I think he took it. He was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet, but the goals will come for him.”

The Gas moved up to 15th place in League One with a win against the Shrews, collecting their third win in four outings in the third tier and their fourth at home this campaign.

Taylor insisted that the league is tight and is happy with the progress being made.

“I think in the grand scheme of things, we’re on 16 points now, and the league is very tight,” he said. “You can win one, move up a few places and the same if you lose one.

“We’re happy with where we are and feel like there is a lot more improvement to come. So, we’re looking forward to the future.”
