‘One thing I do know is…’ – Ex-FIFA official reacts to ‘Dazzling’ Aston Villa transfer rumour

The ex-FIFA official and lifetime Villa supporter claims Bristol Rovers’ Kofi Shaw is one of those players the club is taking a look at.

As reported by Alan Nixon via his Patreon (29 September), Leeds and Villa have sent scouts to watch the “dazzling” 17-year-old in action after he made his first senior start this season.

However, Egan – speaking exclusively to Villa News – believes Shaw would be “lucky” to see Unai Emery’s side make a move for him.

“One thing I do know is that there is a room at Villa Park which has around 300 names on it at the beginning of the season,” Egan said.

“However, nobody in their right mind could turn around and say Shaw is a Premier League player.

“He isn’t even a Championship player yet. However, there is something there that they’ve seen, and they’re looking at.

“If Villa did make a move on somebody like him, he would be lucky. He is probably one of about 300 players that they’re looking at.”

Aston Villa and Leeds United monitoring Bristol Rovers’ Kofi Shaw

Emery and Villa might well be taking a look at Shaw. However, right now, their priorities will likely lay elsewhere, especially after a difficult 2-2 draw with Ipswich Town at Portman Road (29 September).

While Shaw is no doubt a bright talent, he is still a way off being ready for the Premier League. He is only just getting used to EFL League One football and will need time to adapt.

Therefore, Villa and Emery might be wise to let him settle for a season before deciding whether or not to make a move.

However, if they do end up signing him, it could be hugely beneficial in the long run. Shaw would arrive at the club far more experienced than any other 18-year-old at Villa Park.

As a result, he would likely be ready to make a first-team impact much sooner.
