The public were asked to avoid an area of Cardiff as emergency services descended on a residential street. Moorland Road, Splott, was been cordoned off by South Wales Police, with the Welsh Ambulance Service also in attendance after a reported dog attack.

In a post on social media South Wales Police said: “We are dealing with an incident on Moorland Road, Splott. Please avoid the area.”

There was a police vehicle, an unmarked police car, an ambulance and a large group of police officers in attendance.

Police later issued a statement which said: “At 7.30am it was reported that a woman and her dog had been bitten by another dog in a park in the Splott area of Cardiff.

“The dog – which is understood to be a German Shepherd – was without its owner and officers attended to safeguard the public. The dog has been contained and the incident has now been stood down.”
