Martin decided on the Cats over Fremantle as his new home, according to Herald Sun journalist Jay Clark on Wednesday afternoon, after being cut by the Blues in early September.
The 29-year-old has battled more than his fair share of injuries over the course of his 11-year career, including a hamstring issue that cost him the back end of this season.
The Dockers also expressed interest in the forward prior to his joining the Cats, having invited him for a medical in September.
As a delisted free agent, Martin will walk to Geelong uninhibited.
Provided he can remain healthy, the versatile utility shapes as handy depth for the Cats, who farewelled premiership players Gary Rohan and Brandan Parfitt among seven cuts at the end of this season.
Martin played just three AFL games this year and has never played more than 15 matches in a season since arriving at Ikon Park from Gold Coast at the end of 2019.
He has averaged just under 10 senior games per season over the past four years.
The Cats also have eyes on maligned Melbourne midfielder Clayton Oliver — who recently met with club officials as trade speculation once again intensifies — in addition to wantaway Western Bulldogs midfielder Bailey Smith.
Something of a tug of war is expected between the Cats and Dogs for Smith, with most expecting Geelong’s Pick 15 not to be enough in a straight swap.
