Harry Watkinson claims that Everton is one of the teams interested in acquiring Celtic sensation Rocco Vata this summer.
The 18-year-old is on the shortlist at Goodison Park, according to a TEAMtalk journalist who wrote on his personal Twitter account on March 27. This is after the player scored 12 goals in 15 games for the Hoops B team this season.
Vata is a young international for the Republic of Ireland. His contract at Parkhead expires at the end of the current campaign, and he is reportedly being courted by numerous European teams.
One for the future of Everton?
The way Everton approaches transfers needs to shift from previous years; young players who can be developed into elite players through coaching should be given priority.
There is opportunity for a new striker with Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s future uncertain, Beto unable to make a lasting impression in his first season, and Youssef Chermiti doing poorly in his few opportunities thus far.
Despite Vata’s lack of experience and track record, the Toffees have enough of financial leeway to take a chance and trust him because his contract is about to expire.
With 12 goals in 15 games this season, he has good versatility and a definite goal-scoring ability that can be developed. He can play wherever along the front line.
Vata would be a wise addition who would offer some insight into the club’s future plans and the direction they intend to go in the next transfer windows.
