“It’s Huge”-Celtic well placed to dominate Rangers after landing ‘£50m’

Celtic could have a £50million advantage over Rangers this season after qualifying for the Champions League.

Finance expert Stefan Borson has shared with Football Insider that Celtic is well-positioned to dominate financially, especially after Rangers secured only a Europa League spot.

On September 16, Celtic released their 2023-24 accounts, revealing a rise in revenue from £119.9 million to a record £124.6 million, marking a 3.9% increase from the previous year.

Brendan Rodgers’s team qualified for the Champions League, won the Scottish Premiership, and claimed the Scottish Cup, resulting in a profit for the third consecutive year.

In contrast, Celtic’s latest financial figures significantly outpace Rangers, who generated £83.75 million in revenue for 2022-23, with a similar figure expected for the current season.

Celtic have ‘enormous’ financial advantage over Rangers

Borson indicated that Celtic is in a strong position due to their improved financial management in recent years.

“Their wage bill is more controlled than that of many Premier League teams,” Borson told Football Insider. “In some respects, they are quite well-placed.

“For 2023, their wage bill stands at £60 million, which is on the lower end of the Premier League scale.

“With a manageable wage bill and their status as a Champions League team—having reached the league stage this season and last—they have a considerable advantage.”

“It’s a significant advantage over Rangers, who won’t have that £50 million from the group stages.

“It might not be exactly £50 million, but it’s likely very close.

“That gives them an enormous edge over Rangers, putting them in a strong position to dominate financially.”
