Peter Schmeichel criticises Man City supporters while falling in love with Celtic.

Peter Schmeichel speaks with Kate Abdo and the CBS Sports team

Peter Schmeichel claims he attempted to watch Celtic’s thrilling Champions League victory instead because he was so incredibly bored covering Man City.

The legend of Manchester United was at the Etihad Stadium on matchday one to cover City’s goalless tie with Inter Milan for CBS Sports. However, Schmeichel SLAMMED the atmosphere at the Premier League winners’ stadium as Pep Guardiola’s team was unable to make a breakthrough. “I thought it was a really, really boring game,” he declared. That is unfortunate to say. Inter, in my opinion, did a great job preventing Man City.

“I enjoy both thrilling crowds and excellent football. It had passed away. Today, the Etihad was completely deserted. The only people we could hear were the excellent Inter supporters. But the vibe at the Etihad today is nonexistent. A big European night is what you would normally think, but that wasn’t the case for them.”

Just 200 miles away, at Parkhead, the situation was very different as the Celts defeated Slovan Bratislava 5-1.In Glasgow’s east end, Schmeichel’s son, Kasper, was in goal for Celts, giving the Denmark No. 1 his first taste of a European night. And after the game, in interviews with Micah Richards, Thierry Henry, Jamie Carragher, and Kate Abdo, the 60-year-old acknowledged he’s in love with Celtic.

“I’ll let you in on a secret,” he said. I was glued to the screen for most of the first half, hoping to find any connection that would entice me to watch that game too. Here, the wifi isn’t very good. During the entire game, I kept up with the live commentary.”

He responded, “I’ve been dying to see this – and what a handsome fella he is!” after seeing the highlights. With the exception of this one, I’ve seen every Celtics game, and they have a tonne of excellent players. They have three extremely talented Japanese players up front, Kuhn on the right side, and a lot of pace up front.

Their speed is amazing, and the real question is whether they can carry over their success from the Scottish League into the Champions League. Even though Slovan Bratislava isn’t a very good team, they passed a really good test today.

“Can they perform in the same manner against a less formidable team? 5-1 is a fantastic outcome. I’ll be there the next time it’s Dortmund and Kate! I’ve been given permission to be in the green wall rather than the yellow one.”
