SAD NEWS:As explosion at a gas station killed Scottish Celtics supporters

Funeral held for 'caring' Scots Celtic fan who died in Irish petrol station explosion - Daily Record

In October 2022, Kirkintilloch resident Martin McGill was killed in the explosion at the Co Donegal garage where he had stopped to use the cash machine.

Due to a huge explosion at a gas station that killed a Scottish Celtic supporter, two guys have been taken into custody.

Along with nine other individuals, Kirkintilloch resident Martin McGill perished in the October 2022 explosion at the Co Donegal garage.

Prior to the explosion, the 49-year-old, also known as “Scotch Martin” in the community, had relocated to Creeslough to take care of his mother Mary and late father Joseph.

It was understood that when the catastrophe occurred, he had stopped to use the ATM. His car was discovered at the gas station following the explosion, which brought the tragedy to light.

On Friday morning, two men in their 50s were taken into custody by the Gardaí on suspicion of violating the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997.

With the assistance of many agencies, the investigation into the deadly explosion at the Creeslough building complex is still being managed out of Milford Gardaí station.

Robert Garwe and his five-year-old daughter Shauna Flanagan-Garwe were the other victims. James Monaghan, 13, and his mother Catherine O’Donnell were also slain.

Among the others who passed away were fashion student Jessica Gallagher, Sydney native James O’Flaherty, retail employee Martina Martin, carpenter Hugh ‘Hughie’ Kelly, and 14-year-old Leona Harper.

Days after the catastrophe, Martin’s burial was held, and those in attendance were told of his “kindness and compassion for others.” A Celtic top was brought to the front of the building as an homage to his team’s love, and a lone piper accompanied his coffin into the chapel.

Father John Joe Duffy, who conducted the funeral, remarked, “Martin was a caregiver who was filled with love, filled with kindness and compassion.”

“Are those not the key words that have been in action in this community, but have always been in action in this community, from the very first moment, despite the terrible, horrible tragedy that has struck at the very heart of this community and broken our hearts?”

“His compassion was what made him strong. Additionally, his generosity, compassion, and loving nature offered him strength during his tough time of grieving and, not too long ago, when he had to bid goodbye to his father.

“He was genuinely quite kind. His compassion radiated from him. He would be down there burning candles in this church every Sunday. He must have lit a lot more candles than I did in my lifetime. Nobody could possibly beat that record, in my opinion.”

In observance of the victims of the Creeslough explosion, Celtic FC donated £10,000 to a support fund, and its players donned black armbands.
