Analyst calls for guardians to re-sign Free Agent pitcher

The Cleveland Guardians have a major need for pitching this offseason, especially with the bulk of the team’s current rotation hitting free agency.

Most of the team’s rotation is up in the air, but one analyst recently called for the team to re-sign one free-agent pitcher who thrived in the postseason as the Guardians made their run to the ALCS.

Senior MLB Writer for The Athletic, Andy McCullough, recently shared an article detailing the best Black Friday free agent deals around the league and called for the Guardians to re-sign free agent Matthew Boyd.

“Boyd stabilized the Cleveland rotation during the final two months of the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in the summer of 2023. His output might not have been substantial enough to convince the industry that his days of injury are a thing of the past. Another season in Cleveland couldn’t hurt,” McCullough said.

Boyd surrendered just one run over 11.2 innings in the postseason and did an excellent job filling a need for a shockingly thin team in the rotation.

He is joined on the market by fellow free agent Guardians starters Shane Bieber, Alex Cobb, and Carlos Carrasco, leaving behind a rotation featuring just Gavin Williams, Tanner Bibee, Ben Lively, and Joey Cantillo.

Boyd will be 34 when next season begins, and his performance this past season could be enough to land him a multi-year deal.

Hopefully, that multi-year deal will be in Cleveland for Guardians fans.
